The Spare Head 1996
Judy Hill AMGP
The original (vandalised) 19th century pale green tint glass used for this head of St. Peter (W.F.Dixon 1848 1928) was impossible to match precisely; the glass obtainable being either slightly too blue green or too yellow green. As access to the window was both high and tricky I took the precaution of painting copies on the two best matches. A major part of my work is the precise painting of replacement pieces for severely vandalized stained glass. Great care has to be taken to match not only the colour of the glass and pigment but also the style and individual techniques of the original artist.
