The Windy Day
Antique and float glass, painted. An exhilarating autumn day with a sense of foreboding as winter approaches. A beech tree stripped of its last leaves; crows unsettled in the treetops. Black and white emphasis the drama, the spontaneous method of painting reflects the playfulness and delight of the day, swapping from light to dark. I work with flat glass using traditional painting and staining techniques, printing, sandblasting and incorporating metals in firings. I find inspiration in natural forms and materials, working from quick sketches and photos to create representational or abstract images. I enjoy the opportunities that glass offers for playing with light and contrast.
