TAY S I D E & THE KI NGD O M OF FIFE THE BRITISH SOCIETY OF MASTER GLASS PAINTERS ANNUAL AUTUMN CONFERENCE 2009 27-30 AUGUST T his year the Society's annual conference returns to Scotland to explore its rich traditions of stained glass and architecture. We shall be based at the University of Dundee's West Park Centre and there will be the customary series of lectures and tours. These will encompass a wide historical, stylistic and technical range of stained glass, with particular emphasis on the last two hundred years. The principal speaker/tour leader will be Peter Cormack MBE, FSA, HonFMGP. The itineraries for the conference tours are currently being prepared and plans will be finalized as soon as possible, but it is hoped to include the following centres: DUNDEE, ST ANDREWS, PERTH and FORFAR. Among the stained glass artists and makers whose work we shall see will be: Douglas and Alex Strachan, Morris & Co, Daniel Cottier, Walter Pritchard, Gordon Webster, Margaret Chilton, Louis Davis, James Ballantine, Reginald Hallward, William Wilson, Herbert Hendrie and Stephen Adam. Contemporary work will include Douglas Hogg, Alec Galloway, Gabriel Loire and Liz Rowley. The tours will include not only some of Scotland's outstanding medieval buildings but also major work by 19th- and 20thcentury architects such as William Butterfield, Robert Lorimer, A. Marshall Mackenzie, Reginald Fairlie and Paul Waterhouse. West Park, this year's Conference centre in Dundee, is a Mansion House set at the west side of the city centre within 5 minutes' drive of the station and airport. This is a compact centre with accommodation 2 minutes' walk away from the dining and lecture areas. Members slides will be shown earlier in the weekend to allow all to see them. COST OF THE CONFERENCE The residential Conference fee of £310 includes 3 days' coach travel, entrance to all sites visited; 3 nights' accommodation and 3 full English breakfasts, lunches on Saturday and Sunday and 3 dinners. The non-residential fee of £170 includes travel and entrance fees, lunches and dinners. All menus have vegetarian options and there are tea- and coffee-making facilities within the accommodation blocks. These costs are for BSMGP members; nonmembers should add £45 to the appropriate fee.* Please complete this application form if you would like to attend. You may pay the complete cost of the Conference immediately or secure your place with a non-refundable deposit of £30 per person, with the balance paid by 1 June.
