Vic,
I cut the replacement piece (hind paw) from French cordele - a near perfect match in colour and thickness.
My glasspainter (Judy Hill) mixed two Heatons trace paints for the pigment match. You can just see her initials - "JH 2007" to distinguish the insertion from original glass. The insertion was kiln-fired.
I used Hxtal resin for edge bonding - not tinted on this occasion.
Some of the original glasspaint had shelled along the sides of the cracks and Judy used the same Heatons colours mixed with gum Arabic to touch-in. This was of course unfired and reversible. |
