The group met regularly at the Art Workers Guild in London where lectures still take place today. Stained glass was then an important and vibrant industry with many dedicated studios completing hundreds of significant commissions for public and private buildings throughout the United Kingdom and internationally. Handmade glass was mouth-blown in the UK and studios had ready access to a wide range of colours and textures. These professional artist-founders of the Society recognised the need to promote good practice and maintain high standards of design and workmanship. They also saw the need to study and learn from earlier generations to ensure that our treasured stained glass heritage continues to be valued.
