The Stained Glass of Lincoln Cathedral -
prepublication offer

A new book is in preparation about Lincoln Cathedral's stained glass. Until now there has been no book on the subject as a whole. With the aid of modern photography, details barely visible from the floor of the cathedral can be captured with clarity. This visually stunning book celebrates the rich heritage of Lincoln's glass, introducing it to scholars and the general reader alike. In separate chapters, Nigel Morgan explores the subject matter and meaning of the medieval glass and Jim Cheshire investigates the debates and controversies surrounding the 19th-century glazing scheme. Tom Kupper's chapter outlines the conservation of the Dean's Eye, a huge rose window of around 1220.
Authors are Professor Nigel Morgan MA, PhD (Corpus Christi College, Cambridge); Dr Jim Cheshire (University of Lincoln); Mr Tom Kupper MA, Team Leader, Lincoln Cathedral Glazing Department; and Mrs Carol Bennett MA, Lincoln Cathedral editor; photography by Revd Gordon Plumb (contributor to Corpus Vitrearum); foreword by Canon Dr Mark Hocknull, Chancellor of Lincoln. Sewn paperback, 96 pages, with over 100 colour photographs, to be published by Scala in the autumn.
The retail price is £15. The book will be available to buy in person or online in the autumn from the Minster Shop. The prepublication offer is £10, one-third off the retail price. The book can either be collected at the launch in Lincoln Cathedral (date and time to be announced) or sent by post (UK only) with an additional charge of £4.50 for postage and packing. The prepublication offer is valid only with the printed order form, up until the deadline of 30 July. Please note there are no credit card facilities for this offer.
The special offer order form is available from Carol Bennett, Lincoln Cathedral Chapter Office, 4 Priorsgate, Lincoln LN2 1PL; email:educationofficer@lincolncathedral.com.
