QEST scholars at Buckingham Palace festival

Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust (QEST) has been invited to decorate Buckingham Palace’s summer house to celebrate the Coronation Festival. Together with Hare & Humphreys, seven scholars will paint trompe l’oeils, murals and decorative effects within the octagonal building set amongst the trees of the garden. A contemporary dining table, made from English Walnut and cherry wood is currently being made whilst a lettercarver has designed a plaque in York stone to commemorate QEST. A wicker corgi has been constructed to bring a note of informality to what will become a perfect spot for relaxation in this, a legacy project that will be enjoyed for generations to come.

A number of other QEST scholars will be showing their work including ceramics, wood turning, sculpture, basketry, textiles and silversmithing to highlight the eclectic range of crafts that QEST has supported since it was established by the Royal Warrant Holders Association in 1990.

The Coronation Festival takes place from the 11th to 14th July 2013

Since 1991, the Trust has awarded £2 million to nearly 300 craftsmen and women aged between 17 and 50+ to develop their skills through study, training and work experience.
