I am trying to recreate some glass tiles to repair a worn floor mosaic.
The original tiles have silver leaf on the upper surface of the tiles which has been covered with a thin (0.5mm) clear glaze. I have tried firing various fluxes over the silver leaf but the glaze and the base glass turn yellow as with silver stain. Does anybody have any ideas as to how this “glass” coating could have been applied over the silver leaf without the yellowing occurring. The tiles date from about 1900. See photo “Silver Leaf”.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Cheers
