Can I just say congratulations to the author (Michael Kerney), as that this was a really interesting informative article for non-Victorian specialists like myself who've never really considered how Victorian memorial windows came to take over from tablets as the major form of commemoration.
There's also a fascinating parallel in them becoming affordable, widespread & sometimes of inferior quality during the 19th-c with the similar process that took place during the late middle ages, especially the early 16th-c.
And the bit about the vicar who commissioned a window to commemorate shooting a burglar is the funniest thing I've read for ages. |

| Michael, who as you will know is also an authority on British Molluscs, is not online and can’t be reached by email. I shall pass on your kind thoughts via Sn..l Mail. |
