Invitation to a Guided Tour through the Exhibition
'Ancient Glass Technology: Roman ribbed bowls and mosaic glass'
15 October 2011, 3 pm
About a year ago, ancient glass was given the stage at the Glasmuseum Hentrich with the show 'Drawing with Glass: Ancient Glass with Threaded Decoration'. Now, we are about to open a sequel, a show on Roman ribbed bowls and mosaic glasses. The show is curated by François van den Dries from The Netherlands, and it is focusing on the current research of ancient glassmaking techniques: How are the ribs made? Original objects from the Glasmuseum Hentrich’s own collection—mostly donations by Helmut Hentrich—are presented together with modern copies. The eye will be directed to details that help to understand the original techniques, such as the bend of a rib, or the shape of a bubble. Beyond that, however, it is a wonderful treat to look at these timeless and perfect shapes with their special patina, which these objects have gained through the millenia of their burial in the earth.
Since a similar event during the “Drawing with Glass” exhibition has been much appreciated by all attendants, we would again like to invite you for a guided tour, conversations, discussions and tea—and we do firmly hope for your participation!
With kind regards,
Dr Dedo von Kerssenbrock-Krosigk
