John’s last window depicting St Cecilia, for St Peter's church, Limpsfied, Surrey, was installed on 5th June.
He went to great pains getting it right and described how to me he had etched whole sheets of blue to cut up to get the right weight of colour. He had finished it in April, taken it to be glazed, but died two weeks before it was installed.
Mick Fletcher glazed it and I travelled up to see it being installed and to take photographs. Whilst it was being pointed up outside the organist came in to practise - it seemed fitting to hear Bach and other such music, ‘in concert’ to the new window of St Cecilia.
Also in the church, and unmistakably in John’s hand, is a small icon painting of the 'Madonna & Child'. Done in oil on panel, 1971.
