The International Festival of Glass recently announced the artists selected for the 2024 British Glass Biennale exhibition. An expert panel of judges including BSMGP Fellow and Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Glaziers, Martin Donlin, selected one hundred and twenty-one artists out of 326 applicants to present the most interesting, diverse and outstanding glass art made in the UK in the last two years.

Excitingly, the festival welcomed a surge in applications from stained glass artists and many of our membership can be congratulated on being selected to feature in this showcase of contemporary British based glass talent.

Selected Artists

According to the judges, the selected artists have been ‘brave and innovative, using a wide range of styles and techniques both traditional and experimental.’ Featured among them will be; Tamsin Abbott, James Cockerill, Alec Galloway, Kate Henderson, Jane Littlefield, Rachel Mulligan, Rachel Phillips, Penelope Jane Ross, Jane Vincent, Muna Zuberi and Polly Thomas-Colquhoun (Student Selection). Tasters of their work are shown here and we look forward to seeing the new pieces which will no doubt create a healthy and rich slice of stained glass to be served up in the festival’s feast. A full list of selected artists can be seen here.

The festival is an opportunity to engage with the wider community of glass artists, showcase stained glass and this year, it will feature almost £30,000 worth of awards including one of our recent initiatives, the new Glass Painters and Glaziers Award which we have jointly funded with the Worshipful Company of Glaziers. The prize winners will be announced at the Private View on Thursday 22 August.

The exhibition will be open to the public from Friday 22 August to 28 September at the Glasshouse, Stourbridge which is the heart of the historic glass industry in the UK. Check opening times and full details on the International Festival of Glass website.
