Can any colleague point me to a simple summary of the current norms and working advice for blood lead levels? My doctor provides me with readings in micro mols per litre whereas HSE documents seem to operate in micro grams per 100mm. It would be useful to have a simple table showing "normal" levels and raised levels that require action preferably in micro mols per litre or at least with information on how to convert these units to micro grams per 100mm.

From memory, in the UK lead surveillance should be carried out at least every 12 months if your blood lead levels are below 30 μg/dl.... or was is 35, I forget now but whatever the weather, you should check your levels at least every 12 months.

The action level is 50 μg/dl and the suspension level is 60 μg/dl. These figures are for men only, they are lower for young people and significantly lower for women of child bearing age.

To convert Ámol/L to μg/dl times it by 20.7

Bear in mind that the UK has a relatively high exposure limits compared to many other countries.

This is a US equivalent of the HSE's 'Lead and You' for comparison:

Thanks, Dan, for this. The conversion information is particularly useful.
