Awards & Bequests
10 July 2025We are delighted to announce that this year there are eight Benyon Study Awards for fully funded places on our popular touring conference in Winchester and Hampshire. The awards were named after our late Chairman, Caroline Benyon, who did so much to for the Society and had a special interest in the touring conference.
We received twenty applications making the selection process very challenging.
The winners of the study awards are:
Rebecca Bingham – funded by our Charitable Trust
Toby Britton Watts – funded by our Charitable Trust
Lydia Fisher – funded by the Kerney Bequest
Julia Gonyou – funded by the Jane Gray Bequest
Nina Hershorn – funded by the Kerney Bequest
Lizzy Hippsley-Cox – funded by our Charitable Trust
Hannah Jordan – funded by the Glaziers’ Foundation
Martin Lane – funded by our Charitable Trust
We have been able to expand the number of places because of two bequests we have recently received.
We are pleased to announce that the British Society of Master Glass Painters’ Charitable Trust has received a very generous bequest from the estate of the late nineteenth-century stained glass researcher, author and Hon. Fellow, Dr Michael Kerney. We are taking professional advice on how to ensure that his wishes for the bequest are met and more details will be announced in due course.
We were also touched to receive a bequest from the late Fellow, Jane Gray, who was a regular attendee on the touring conferences. We thought it fitting that her bequest should fund a place for an artist.
With these bequests, and an expanding membership of artists, researchers, conservators, and enthusiasts, and with our outstanding publication The journal of Stained Glass, the Society is well placed to support the ever-changing stained-glass landscape.
To ensure we meet our charitable objectives, we are seeking applications for new Trustees. If you would like to join us or know someone suitable please email secretary@bsmgp.org.uk
Meanwhile there are still a few places left for the conference which can be booked here. We are looking forward to sharing our love of stained glass with old friends and welcoming new talent.
