David Martlew Memorial Prize
06 February 2020The Society of Glass Technology have introduced the David Martlew Memorial Prize which is sponsored by the Martlew Family and the Society of Glass Technology. It takes the form of a bursary to enable someone in the fields of study normally covered by the History and Heritage part of the Annual Conference of the Society of Glass Technology to attend and present a paper at the Conference.
The David Martlew Memorial Prize is open to all – students, practitioners and researchers. The deadline for applications is 1st June 2020.
The Bursary will cover:
- The cost of registration for the Conference.
- Accommodation.
- A year membership subscription to the SGT.
- An illuminated scroll or other memento of the occasion.
The successful applicant will be expected to:
- Submit a paper, to be delivered in person, at the Conference.
- Attend the Conference Banquet.
The registration form calls for :

A short abstract giving an overview of the paper to be presented.

Contact details for the person, telephone, postal address etc.

A short CV together with a picture, these are backing material attached to the abstract when it is posted on the website.

The presentation is normally of about 30 minutes to allow 10 minutes for questions, explanations etc.

The topic is the artist work, the thinking behind it, methods of execution, difficulties etc, which are normally connected with glass in some way.

Some people talk about their difficulties with the materials, glass ceramics, metals etc, some more about the thoughts behind their work.

The presentation should be in the form of a “Power Point” slide show.
