Discussion Day 2025

£47.00

Glass Ecosystems

Join the British Society of Master Glass Painters for an exciting edition of our annual Discussion Day on Friday 24 October, Glaziers Hall, London. Organised by the Artists Working Group, the theme for this year’s Discussion Day is Glass Ecosystems.

In continuation from our recent webinar ‘Artistic Perspectives on Environmentalism in Stained Glass’, this in-person event will recognise the interconnectivity between craft and the environment and how our practices can be adapted to create a more sustainable future for both. Connect with like-minded stained glass practitioners and receive experiential advice directly from industry professionals who have succeeded in either de-carbonizing their practice, championing environmentally conscious narratives or have innovated more eco-friendly technical processes.

James Cockerill of Halt Glass, who specialises in elaborate silkscreened compositions in glass, will offer advice and hindsight about the ins-and-outs of de-carbonizing his practice. James recently designed a joyfully immersive scheme for the King’s Trust garden at Chelsea Flower Show that won a prestigious gold medal.

Tamsin Abbott, who delicately engraves and sgraffito paints mouth-blown glass, will reflect on her own evolving style of visual language relating to our relationship with nature. Tamsin recently collaborated and published ‘Wild Folk’ in hardback, vibrantly illustrated with a collection of her ethereal stained glass art.

Gregory Alliss, who specialises in creating free-standing kiln cast and cold worked sculptures, rich in textural depth, will share insights about his technical innovations when using recycled glass. Gregory recently completed a PhD at Edinburgh College of Art, where he investigated and developed practical research on sustainable approaches to re-purposing waste glass within a creative glass practice.

Daniel Carpenter, Executive Director of Heritage Crafts, will speak about the inter-connectivity between craft and nature. How the organisation encourages sustainability and acts as an interdisciplinary resource for craftspeople to find and support one another. Daniel contributes to many other non-for-profits within the arts, crafts and heritage sectors and was one of the original founders of Heritage Crafts.

The Discussion Day will be beneficial for enthusiasts and practitioners at any stage in their career, as well as those from other disciplines. Don’t miss out on this interactive event to advance your knowledge, commit to a more sustainable future and support one another in the process!

We will be right next to the Thames, besides London Bridge, at the beautiful Guild Hall of the Worshipful Company of Glaziers and Painters of Glass. Tea and coffee are provided but not lunch. Borough Market is around the corner, with lots of quality options for a fantastic lunch. There are pubs close by for evening drinks.

This is a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) event, all attendees will receive a CPD certificate of attendance to put towards their curriculum vitae.

The British Society of Master Glass Painters is very grateful to the Worshipful Company of Glaziers for hosting the event at Glaziers Hall.

Friday 24 October 10.30-4.30 at Glaziers Hall. Tickets £39.95 for members, £47 for non-members for the whole day.
