Since graduating from the University of Sunderland with a 1st class hons degree in architectural glass and art & design, Alan has progressively gained a favorable reputation as an ecclesiastical glass artist. His work can be found in many parish churches in Yorkshire, the North East and further afield in Northumberland, Anglesey, Manchester and London.
He also produces work for private spaces and exhibitions which gives him the opportunity to experiment and create new ways of using traditional techniques, which involves acid etching, painting, enamelling, silver staining, kiln formed glass and leading.
What comes across in his work is a sense of movement and depth. The rich textural quality to the glass surface is the consequence of observing surface detail and patterns found in nature and the natural erosion of manmade structures and objects. The North Yorkshire coast and moors where he lives and works are a constant source of inspiration.
