Rachel Phillips stained glass work can be found everywhere from castles to composting toilets. She believes in the ability of glass to enrich any environment and is committed to making distinctive, excellent contemporary artwork in response to historic and contemporary settings.
Rachel studied Architectural Glass at Swansea in Wales and enjoys creating contemporary glass artwork with traditional materials and methods. She is inspired by three-dimensional applied arts such as carving, textiles and ceramics for their ability to embody the narrative of human experience in rich symbolic and decorative languages. She has designed and made large scale architectural commissions for a variety of public and private buildings including World Heritage sites.
Rachel established her studio in Pembrokeshire, Wales in 2000. She was specialist stained glass painting tutor for the undergraduate programme at the Swansea School of Glass for over a decade and continues to deliver glass painting workshops and masterclasses as part of her creative practice, She was awarded a Qest Scholarship in 2023 to explore the use of gilding, bonding and glass engraving in her work.
